Regional Transformation by Joint Smart Solutions, August 2020 – August 2021
The overall project goal is to reinforce economic development of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts revealing their unique opportunities and innovation priorities elaboration through support forming the thematic working groups who will work on design of a new vision of regional development of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, and building productive interaction between their team-members as well as across teams; develop innovative priorities in the economic sectors for target oblasts and elaborate Smart Specialization Strategies (S3); provide methodological expert support to the thematic working groups members through training and mentoring to elaborate a number of specialized documents for their further coordination with the European Commission (EC) and implementation in regions; assist in promotion of new S3-based vision of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts on cross-regional, national and international levels.

Promote Ukrainian Participation in European Strategy for the Danube Region, 2016 – 2020
Ukraine has possibilities to increase its participation in the Danube Strategy by the means of cooperation with EUSDR member-states in a large-scale projects of common interest, for instance, environmental protection, investing in people and skills, sustainable energy development, security and others. EUSDR gives the possibility to implement the regional policy in order to harmonise the living standards and effective synergy on the ministerial and regional levels within 11 priority areas.

Democracy-building through enhancing the dialog between local stakeholders, 2018-2021 (pilot project and 2 phases)
The project is designed to maintain a dialog between local stakeholders regarding effective development of the region and joint elaboration of the local policy to enhance the regional capacities. The project helps stakeholders to use internal and external resources and opportunities for growth and harmonious development of the regions; facilitates joint initiatives of authorities, business and researches for sustainable development in future.

Youth Capital of Ukraine 2019-2020
Ukrainian Youth Capital is a competition initiated by the Ukrainian Institute for International Politics and the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2017. The Ukrainian Youth Capital is an effective tool for strengthening cooperation between local authorities and youth in order to achieve the goals of sustainable local development. The competition was held for the first time in 2017, 56 applications were received for the competition, in 2018 – 41 cities and in 2019 – 48 cities sent their applications for the competition “Ukrainian Youth Capital”. The city, which applied for the competition, increased the participation of young people in decision-making, showed a willingness to cooperate with young people in their development. The “Youth Capital of Ukraine” competition can be considered a “training” of cities before submitting their documents to the “European Youth Capital” competition.

Launching Regions: Donbas, December 2016 – 2017
It is regional multilateral initiative aiming to support the communities in target regions and provide coaching, mentoring, and training for 60 reform-oriented local government and local civil society organizations representative for 19 sub-national areas within Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Initiative focus on support of the progressive members of local governments and increase their self-confidence, communication skills and techniques and overcome post- conflict consequences in target communities as well as encourage close cooperation among the relevant local authorities and civil society organizations and initiatives.

Engaging political parties in decentralization reform, June – October 2017
The project aims at capacity-building of political parties by facilitating internal party discussion on decentralization and encouraging parties to develop their own positions on decentralization in the form of messages to potential voters. UIIP regional activities in 2015 and 2016 identified a number of threats and trends, which need to be taken into account in future work regarding regional development, reform implementation and inter-regional cooperation. Political parties play a crucial role in the decentralization reform implementing on the regional/ local level.

The purpose of the project is to support local authorities in operating and implementing community development programs. The project creates a forum for improving knowledge and skills on organizational development and institutional capacity of communities as well as application of project management methods in the work of regions and newly created united territorial communities.

Innovation Youth Capital, November 2017 – 2018
The project aims to strengthen the role of youth in society. The main tasks are to provide implementation of youth policy taking into account best practices of EU, to provide culture exchange and creation of youth networking from different parts of Ukraine and Europe as well as host thematic activities within a year in order to involve youth in all spheres of local and regional levels activities.

Strengthening regional development capacities through dialog of the local elites, May – December 2016
The project is designed to launch a dialog between local stakeholders regarding effective development of the region and joint elaboration of the local policy to enhance the regional capacities. Project objectives include analyzing the imperfections and inconsistencies of the dynamic regional development (corruption, lack of professional staff and understanding the new opportunities of raising the capacity of region, etc.) and provide recommendations to the local authorities on its efficient implementation, strengthening the capacities of the local government of the 7 Western regions in understanding of the investments instruments, procedures and investments climate improvement as a way of regional development, raising awareness of local authorities about the new possibilities of the investments attractiveness in the conditions of decentralization reform, providing recommendations on possible solutions and further steps of the local government

New management for local authorities in Eastern regions, December 2015 – April 2016
The project purpose is to reduce the level of social tension and to initiate a dialogue on successful community development in the Eastern regions through the joint efforts of local authorities and civil society within the cities of regional and rayonal significance in Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhya, Donetsk and Luhansk regions after the local elections 2015 in Ukraine.

Promoting Administrative Reform in Northeastern and Central Ukraine, February – July 2015
The UIIP will conduct an informational campaign addressing misconceptions about decentralization in the cities of Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava, Kirovograd, Cherkasy, and Zhytomir, as well as in the Kyiv region. It will organize eight, one-day seminars for over 350 participants, conduct eight press conferences for local media, and distribute a series of informational materials. The UIIP will utilize participant feedback to prepare a series of recommendations on efficiently implementing the reforms that will be presented to the government, relevant agencies and the public.

Vote Smart Campaign for Early Parliamentary Elections 2014 in Ukraine, September-November 2014
The project is aimed to increase Ukrainian citizens’ understanding of basic values and electoral promises of Ukrainian political parties on 2014 Early Parliamentary Elections. Voter education and mobilization campaign shall address voters’ motivation and preparedness to participate fully in coming soon elections. It shall go beyond simple information about basic values and electoral promises of Ukrainian political parties. Moreover, how their programs and promises links with voters’ wishes and requests. That is why the user-friendly web resource www.vyboromat.net is created within the UIIP project.

Factors of cooperation and dialogue of civil society in the settlement of the Transdniester conflict, October 2013 – April 2014
The project dedicated to empowering civil society of the Dniester region (Moldova, Transdniester, Ukraine) through active participation in non-political trans-border projects and contributing to install sustainable dialog between civil society organizations. This will be achieved through an interactive web-platform www.dniester-initiatives.org, which is a helpful tool for civil society in regions. Developing the level of involvement of local communities we can increase the influence on regional policy decision-making processes.

International conference “Factors for the civil society cooperation and dialogue in Transdnister conflict settlement” was organized by the Ukrainian Institute for International Politics, Odessa Branch of the National Institute for Strategic Studies, under the initiative of the Ukrainian OSCE Chairmanship in November 2013 within this project.
